VetSit helps you recycle all brands of cat and dog dry food bags, and wet food pouches. When we visit on a dog walk or pet visit, simply leave your empty, clean and dry pet food packaging out for collection. We’ll take it to one of TerraCycle’s Royal Canin Free Recycling Programme drop-off points. We also collect any pet food packaging that’s used when we visit.

What can be recycled?

All brands of cat and dog food plastic packaging including dry food bags and wet food pouches. You don’t need to wash the packaging before leaving it out for collection, but please remove as much of the remaining product as possible and ensure the items are dry.

Recycling paw

TerraCycle’s Royal Canin Free Recycling Programme doesn’t accept:

  • Packaging still containing food
  • Wet food tins
  • Packaging from pet food rolls
  • Pet food cardboard boxes
  • Pet toys and accessories
  • Woven pet food packaging.

What happens after collection?

Once collected, the pet food packaging is cleaned and shredded. It’s then melted down and pelletised to be recycled into new products.

Recycling in-between VetSit visits

If you’d like to recycle pet food packaging in-between VetSit’s dog walks and pet visits, please find a TerraCycle Royal Canin Free Recycling Programme drop-off point near you. Many Canterbury veterinary clinics are public drop-off points as well as Petstock and Animates stores.

Animates Vetcare New Zealand has produced this great video to explain the Recycling Programme and what happens after the items are collected.
